A refrigerated container is a shipping container made from steel with an internal refrigeration unit. These units are all heavily insulated, with internal lighting and a fully weatherproof exterior to maintain cold storage, even during the Summer.
Each unit houses an electric compressor that pulls warm air out of the cargo space, passes it over a refrigerated coil, and recirculates the chilled air evenly around the load. Power comes from either an onboard diesel generator or a plug-in electric supply at the depot, vessel or trailer, so the temperature remains stable right through the journey.
